Shreyas Mathur High School Senior

About Me

I'm a Senior in the Class of 2026 with a strong interest in aerospace engineering, built through hands-on experience in research, rocketry, and STEM education. From independent airfoil design research to working toward high-power rocketry certification, I'm always looking to challenge myself and push the limits of what aerospace technology can do.

I'm also really into cars and motorsport, especially Formula 1. I enjoy following races, teams, and strategy, and I also love watching cricket and tennis, where performance, precision, and decision-making all come together.

I stay active myself by playing sports, especially tennis and pickleball.

Illinois Aerospace Institute

University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign

One week residential program

Over the week-long on-campus experience, I attended lectures on a variety of aerospace concepts like flight mechanics, rocket propulsion, orbital dynamics, and aerospace materials. The program also involved introductions to industry tools and analyzing how to solve problems using Excel and Python.

I also visited world-class aerospace research facilities on campus, including the LASSI, ARL, and the Wind Tunnel Laboratory. I witnessed how aerospace industry research is done using industry-grade tools, testing equipment, and design processes. I also spoke with researchers working on active projects and discussed their experiences to give me a clear picture of what aerospace engineering looks like in practice.

The program also included model glider and rocket design activities, where I applied key engineering concepts like lift, stability, and thrust. I worked through the full design process—planning, building, testing, and making adjustments based on performance results. These hands-on projects helped reinforce what I learned in lectures and provided a deeper understanding of how aerospace engineers approach challenges.

Saturday Morning Physics

Fermi National Laboratory (Fermilab)

11-week program

I participated in Fermilab's prestigious Saturday Morning Physics (SMP) Program, an enrichment series designed to introduce high school students to modern physics. Over the course of 11 weeks, I attended expert-led lectures and toured one of the world's leading physics laboratories. Through engaging presentations and access to Fermilab's facilities, I explored cutting-edge physics concepts and gained a deeper understanding and appreciation of how modern physics research is conducted.
